Zimmerli of Switzerland brand was founded in 1871 by Pauline Zimmerli Bäurlin. A teacher by profession, after the bankruptcy of her husband she took responsibility of caring for the big family on her own and reinvented herself as a tailoress.
Having learnt how to work with the latest looms in Basel, Paulina returned to his native Switzerland, brought one of the country’s first machines for knitwear, and thus laid the foundation for the knitting industry in the country.
Fabrics for the production of laundry are still made on the old flat knitting machines. They are more expensive to operate than the current machines and work much slower, and therefore are seen rarely on the market.
